A New Chapter for the Pacific Southern

The Pacific Southern Railway, a 5,000-square-foot HO scale layout with over 12,000 feet of hand-laid track, has been a cornerstone of model railroading since 1964. After the passing of longtime steward Carl Pate III in 2024, the club faced uncertainty. Murray, a lifelong train enthusiast, stepped in to secure the layout's future by purchasing the property for approximately $1.3 million.

Expanding Access and Engagement

Under Murray's ownership, the Pacific Southern is embracing modernization and broader community involvement:

  • Virtual Memberships: Enthusiasts worldwide can now join the club remotely, gaining access to exclusive content and updates.

  • Enhanced Online Presence: A revamped website and new logo have been launched to reflect the club's renewed vision.

  • Community Events: Plans are underway for open houses and fundraisers, including an event on November 21–22 to benefit local emergency services.

Murray's wife, Melyssa, will also relocate her candle business, No. 95 Candles, to the property, integrating local entrepreneurship with the club's activities.
